Yes - but is it really that good?.....probably not

I am one that likes to be blunt more than evasive. I try not to play too much PR for myself. I tend to be the kind of person that stands by their successes as much as they stand by their failures, this is one of those projects where I'm standing by what I consider to be a failure. But I did learn valuable lessons from a personal let down.

1. No photoshopping when drunk
2. No drunk photoshopping when looking at other people's artwork

I got sloppy with this wallpaper, and I allowed myself to get creatively lazy. I'm not trying to beat myself up too much about it, I have gotten some warm opinions of the piece, but I think it's below my own standards and I do intend on using the same original Obama photograph to make a better desktop image.

If you go into the Photoshop.psd file you can see that I relied too much on filters, and didn't do enough to clean up artifacts and bad edges. In many way this was a sloppy piece, but I put it on the internet, and I'm not going to edit it away....

The original picture I started with is this:

....

Hrm, well. I can't seem to find the original right now. I'll do some digging later, and update the post with links to the starting picture.

But the general process, was:

1. Make fancy 2 tone blue background with a bunch of filters
2. Desaturate the picture of Barack that I have so I work in greys and blacks
3. Run a cutout filter on the image I have of the Senator
3. Selective coloring to move away from the B&W
4. Gotham font for "Yes We Can"

This was a real fast and furious image, and I did it while watching a lot of late night Adult Swim, so I was really drawing more from the Adult Swim styles than my own. I am happy with the color choices, and I'm glad that I did try and do something a little different, but I just didn't make it pop the way I have on some of my other work.

Thanks for reading, see you next time!
